Cotonou, Benin

Cotonou, Benin

There is another flight taking off from ouga this morning and it is a great feeling to walk by all the immigration, custom‘s officers and security checks. We are airborne in no time and from the plane we can see how the climate is changing to more moisture with many clouds. Also the ground is changing from brown to green; from desert to fertile land.

The novotel is very close to the airport and we are there within 45 minutes after landing. We take a rest and meet marie-josephin kora thama, country manager, of right to play. Unfortunately we are here on a saturday when all schools are closed and we are unable to visit some schools to see the children. Marie-josephin takes us the their office where  we meet the rest of the crew and get a good presentation of the activities of the organization.

„look after yourself, look after one another“ is the philosophy at the base of all the programs. Right to play uses this philosophy to promote the adoption of positive and healthy life competences, to support the awakening of the problems of development and health. During 2009, a total number of 16‘673 children (7‘548 girls) were reached by the programs through 359 (137 female) coaches and leaders. The amazing thing is that rtp was only set up in 2006 and had a major setback in 2008 due to the financial crises. You can find more information on www.righttoplay.com.

We get some nice presents and take marie-josephin and boris for dinner to a pizzeria. Back in the hotel, there is a nightcap at the bar with the latest update on european football.
