Norfolk, USA

Norfolk, USA

Great to be back in the colonies!! It is so similar to our part of the world yet so different . Due to strong headwinds, the flight takes us 2 hours longer than planned. Norfolk, home of the US Navy – and great steak houses.

The complimentary breakfast at the motel is not that great; we wonder how they can drink that stuff called coffee! Since we have a long flight today, we decide to stop at the Subway on the way to the airport. Tom, the big connoisseur, knows all the different ingredients of a sandwich and orders like a gourmet!

It starts raining and we get the plane ready for take-off . Time to get further south! The entire East-Coast is covered with clouds and we see nothing but white. We have strong headwinds of around 80 knots which slows us down considerably. Due to this, we covered 1‘200 miles on the ground but actually flew 1‘600 miles. Or in other words the wind was costing us 2 hours! The pilots are pretty busy since there are a lot of planes in the air here.

It rains in Norfolk. Customs is pretty efficient and the officers admire our plane. We hit rush hour on the way in and our hotel is right opposite the dry docks where the US Navy has some of their yachts.

Rainer books us a wonderful table at a local steak house. Meat is out of this world (black Angus) and so is the wine list (great Zins and CS). What else can you ask for?
