Packing was quite a job and took all day. Actually the list includes 135 different items just for the web-master. A lot of camera, electronic and computer gadgets, but also emergency stuff, medical kit, etc.

A rainy Saturday morning in Switzerland! We run into the Frey family and Tom on the highway to Mollis. Loading up the plane, saying good-bye to the families, taking last pictures in rain and then take-off right on time. Flying for three hours over France-England to Scotland where we stop in Wick which is located on the North coast. Taking fuel, getting the survival suits for the Atlantic crossing and of course we are hungry at lunch time. Since there is no restaurant in on the airfield, they get us fish and chips from the local shop. Of course it is cooked according to Dr. Rohner so even Rainer can eat it. The airfield was built during the war and it shows. Take-off in Scottish weather: while we board the plane, there is some rain and snow, when we take-off the sun is shining. We decided to go for the survival suits that are worn by the helicopter crews and the people on the oil rigs. They are more comfortable than the Neoprene ones and since we have them to wear during the entire Atlantic crossing; makes more sense

Strong headwinds on the flight to Island which means a longer flying time. We touch down in Reykjavik shortly after 16.00h, fill up the plane and clear customs. It is quite windy and cool but very sunny. A taxi brings us in 10 minutes to the hotel; the city is not too big. Around 185‘000 people live here; 2/3 of the population of Iceland.

While the pilots do some sightseeing and a dinner on their own, the webmaster meets some old Karate friends, gets the Karate studio shown (no training though), a tour through the old town of Reykjavik and a dinner in an old Icelandic fish restaurant. At 22.30h it is still daylight.

The first day went rather well; smooth but long flying!
